Preparing for Law Enforcement Physical Test

Each Agency has different physical fitness requirements. We can help you get ready. To name a few, Local LEO, FBI, Secret Service, and DEA.

Police Physical Abilities Test (PAT): Also known as POPAT, PTT, POPS, POWER, or PAA, this test is a major challenge for most candidates. It is designed to test your physical readiness for police work, which is one of the most physically demanding professions.

FBI Physical Fitness Test (PFT): The PFT consists of four main events, with a fifth event only for those in the Tactical Recruitment Program (TRP). The events are administered in the following order with no more than five minutes of rest between each event:

Sit-ups: Maximum number of continuous sit-ups in one minute

  • Sprint: Timed 300-meter sprint
  • Push-ups: Maximum number of continuous push-ups (untimed)
  • Run: Timed 1.5-mile run
  • Pull-ups: Maximum number of continuous pull-ups (only TRP candidates complete this event)

Secret Service Applicant Physical Abilities Test (APAT):

The APAT is a pre-employment physical fitness test developed to evaluate an applicant’s ability to perform the physical tasks required on the job by measuring muscular and dynamic strength, endurance, flexibility, aerobic capacity and other factors related to physical aptitude. The APAT is scored on a point-based system. Each test component is scored on a scale from 0 to 8 points. An applicant must achieve a minimum cumulative score of 20 points with no zeros to pass the APAT.

DEA Physical Task Assessment (PTA): The PTA consists of a battery of fitness tests that serve to evaluate a candidate’s ability to successfully complete a DEA initial training program and perform the essential tasks of a Special AgentThe PTA is conducted in a specific order with no more than 10 minutes of rest in between each event:

Sit-ups: 1 minute

  • 300 Meter Sprint: Timed Event
  • Push-up: Untimed Event/Continuous Motion
  • 1.5 Mile run: Timed Event
